8th RPOA-IUU CCM Held in Brunei

The 8th RPOA-IUU Coordination Committee Meeting (CCM) was held in Bandar Seri Begawan-Brunei Darussalam, 17-19 November 2015. The objectives of the meeting are to discuss progress under the RPOA-IUU 2014-2015 Work Plan, endorse the reports from the Sub-Regional Groups, review the overall progress and outlook of the RPOA-IUU implementation, identify new issues in the implementation of the RPOA-IUU and develop the RPOA-IUU 2015-2016 Work Plan.

The meeting was attended by 9 (nine) participating countries (Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam). Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste were unable to attend the meeting. The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Centre (SEAFDEC) also attended the meeting as an Advisory Body to the RPOA-IUU. The meeting also attended by observers such as Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), Greenpeace, United States International Development for Regional Development Mission for Asia (USAID RDMA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The RPOA-IUU continue to provide the relevant platform to further showcase the region’s commitment to implementing responsible fishing practices and also to showcase our commitment to engage and cooperate with our global partners in the fight against IUU fishing.

The International Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) Network aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of fisheries-related MCS activities through enhanced cooperation, coordination, information collection and exchange among national organizations and institutions responsible for fisheries-related MCS.
